Ecuador: la svolta minacciata dal �golpe economico�

24.04.2005 Dopo le dimissioni del presidente Lucio Guti�rrez la situazione � minacciata da un possibile colpo di stato o una guerra civile legata alla nuova decisione di eliminare il fondo petrolifero (Feirep) a cui fanno capo le entrate del greggio e che � destinato a far fronte all'indebitamento pubblico. Secondo alcuni osservatori l�Ecuador - quinto produttore di petrolio dell�America Latina e secondo esportatore verso gli Stati Uniti - le aziende petrolifere straniere presenti nel paese potrebbero aver contribuito in maniera diretta o indiretta allo sviluppo e all�accentuazione della crisi. Tra queste c�� anche l�italiana Eni che possiede un'intera regione dell'Amazzonia ecuadoriana chiamata �Blocco 10� e sta costruendo un mega oleodotto che sta inquinando il paese. Intanto le organizzazioni per i diritti umani lanciano un manifesto di proposte al nuovo governo di Alfredo Palacio.

Come l'Eni, non volendo, ha cacciato Gutierrez

23.04.2005 L'Ecuador � uno dei teatri preferiti dall'Eni nella tanto sbandierata �Eni's way�. Proprio alla fine del 1999 l'Eni � divenuta titolare unica di un'intera regione dell'Amazzonia ecuadoriana chiamata �Blocco 10�, all'interno della quale porta avanti attivit� di sfruttamento petrolifero. Dal pozzo chiamato �Villano1�, l'Eni estrae attualmente 15000 barili giornalieri mentre le riserve dell'area sono stimate in 190 milioni di barili di greggio. Per aumentare lo sfruttamento portandolo a circa 40.000 barili giornalieri, l'Eni ha giustificato la sua partecipazione, insieme alle altre �sorelle�, alla costruzione dell'oleodotto privato Ocp: un serpente di 513 km che ha spaccato in due il paese, distrutto gran parte delle foreste ancora rimaste e violato i diritti delle comunit� vicine al tubo.

Ecuador: l'esercito si ritira, torna la calma a Quito

21.04.2005 Con le dimissioni del presidente Lucio Guti�rrez, rifugiatosi presso l'ambasciata del Brasile, la nomina a capo dello Stato del vicepresidente Alfredo Palacio e il ritiro dalle strade dell'esercito e della polizia che ha tolto l'appoggio a Guti�rrez, sembra essere tornata la calma a Quito, capitale dell'Ecuador. Sarebbero tre le vittime e decine i feriti delle manifestazioni, in gran parte pacifiche, che hanno occupato la capitale nei giorni scorsi. L'annuncio del neo-presidente Palacio della fine della dittatura e di un prossimo referendum per riformare la costituzione avrebbero contribuito a riportate la calma nel paese andino che comunque rimane sotto osservazione da parte dell'Onu.

ACCION International was honored with a visit from Colombian President Uribe for the inauguration of new ACCION Centro offices in March. President Uribe inaugurated the new offices in the presence of several hundred invited guests, including Julio Mario Santo Domingo, a strong supporter and partner of ACCION. Having outgrown its previous space, ACCION Centro, ACCION Bogota group, moved into the new offices with partner Fundaci�n Mario Santo Domingo. In addition to better office space, the new building also houses classrooms for the ABCs of Business training program run by ACCION Centro. ABCs of Business teaches microentrepreneurs the basics of running a business so that they may effectively work their way out of poverty.

Gran marcha de Quito

20.04.2005 M�s de treinta mil manifestantes participaron en las marchas del d�a de ayer, estas comenzaron a las 17:00 horas. Fueron duramente reprimidas, pero unos tres mil manifestantes lograron llegar a una cuadra a la redonda del palacio de gobierno copando todas las esquinas del centro de quito. El fuerte resguardo policial y militar con el uso de abundantes gases lograron impedir la llegada a palacio.

Brasile: gli indios chiedono un riconoscimento da Lula

20.04.2005 Dal 24 aprile al 3 maggio prossimo, gli Indiani in Brasile manifesteranno davanti all'Esplanade di San Paolo in segno di protesta per gli spaventosi record registrati dal governo Lula in materia di diritti indigeni. In occasione del "Giorno dell'Indio" celebrato il 19 aprile i 430.000 indigeni hanno criticato il governo Lula che aveva promesso l'istituzione di un "programma speciale e urgente" per il riconoscimento ufficiale dei loro territori. Ma circa il 50% delle terre indigene sta ancora aspettando una ratifica. Gli Indiani Guaran�-Kaiow� combattono da decenni per riscattare le loro terre da potenti latifondisti. Molti bambini soffrono di malnutrizione e, stando agli ultimi rapporti, in questi primi mesi dell'anno almeno 22 di loro sono morti di fame.

Los gobiernos de ambos pa�ses consideran que la atenci�n sanitaria es un derecho humano b�sico. As� que Cuba, rica en atenci�n sanitaria, y Venezuela, rica en petr�leo, han comenzado un trueque en beneficio de la poblaci�n de ambos pa�ses. Esto podr�a considerarse como un ejemplo hist�rico de suma importancia sobre los beneficios del mercado libre. �Qui�n podr�a estar en contra?

Vaticano: Ratzinger eletto papa, delusione in Sudamerica

20.04.2005 I cardinali riuniti in Conclave hanno eletto oggi al soglio pontificio il cardinale Joseph Ratzinger, Prefetto della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede e Decano del Collegio cardinalizio. Conosciuto per le posizioni contrarie alla Teologia della Liberazione e per i provvedimenti nei confronti di alcuni suoi teologi, la nomina di Ratzinger ha suscitato "grande delusione" in America Latina. Il card. Ratzinger non hai mai espresso simpatia per il movimento per la pace e il nome scelto dal neo-eletto papa, Benedetto XVI, non intenderebbe indicare una linea di continuit� col pontificato "pacifista" di Benedetto XV - che esort� i governi alla pace definendo la prima guerra mondiale "una inutile strage" - ma una modalit� di ricordare all'Unione Europea le "radici cristiane": San Benedetto, infatti, � il santo protettore dell'Europa.
