The World Bank will give Barbados a $15 million loan to support treatment for its HIV positive population. This is the first time the Bank has given such a loan as it usually only gives out money for health infrastructure. 'Economic and political stability' are cited as reasons why the Bank is diverging from the norm. The Barbados government has already pledged $50 million over the next five years to purchase antiretroviral drugs.
