HIV/AIDS in Eritrea

Eritrea has developed reasonable capacity to combat HIV/AIDS and the country experiences a relatively low prevalence rate. But a combination of adverse circumstances - extreme poverty, droughts, and thousands of soldiers being disbanded - creates risks which may be difficult to control.
Andrew Petkun a photojournalist in the United States who has been documenting the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa recently visited Eritrea.

Official statistics indicate that the incidence of HIV/AIDS in Eritrea is only 3% of the population. Misinformation and lack of awareness, however threaten to worsen the situation.
