Approvata la legge finanziaria 2008, la campagna 'Sbilanciamoci' offre un bilancio dell’insieme dei provvedimenti. "Complessivamente il giudizio è critico. Al di là della presenza di varie e buone misure contenute nei quattro provvedimenti, quello che colpisce è l’assenza – a parte l’obiettivo di riduzione del deficit e del debito pubblico – di un disegno unitario della politica economica e finanziaria: limitati e modesti gli interventi per promuovere un modello di sviluppo nuovo, sostenibile, di qualità, capace di futuro" - scrive 'Sbilanciamoci!'. Il dato positivo è che finalmente non si tagliano le risorse alla sanità, agli enti locali, al sociale. 'Sbilanciamoci!' sintetizza tra le tante misure - buone e cattive - presenti in Finanziaria, le 10 migliori e le 10 peggiori alla luce delle proposte avanzate dalla campagna ad ottobre.

Con un versamento anticipato di 130 milioni di euro, l’Italia è stato il primo paese a versare la quota per il 2008 al 'Fondo Globale per la lotta contro l’Aids, la Tubercolosi e la Malaria' (GFATM): l’esborso complessivo italiano dal 2002 ad oggi raggiunge così 790 milioni di euro. Dopo anni di pagamenti dilazionati finalmente "un segnale importante di responsabilità da parte del governo italiano" - commenta ActionAid . "E' il segno che la mobilitazione della società civile paga e che nel governo Prodi si fa spazio una nuova idea di solidarietà e cooperazione internazionale" - aggiunge l'eurodeputato Vittorio Agnoletto già presidente della Lila. Con 7,7 miliardi di dollari approvati per la realizzazione di oltre 450 interventi in 136 Paesi, in soli cinque anni il Fondo ha contribuito a triplicare il numero di pazienti sotto terapia anti-retrovirale e a curare quasi tre milioni di malati di tubercolosi, salvando la vita a 1,8 milioni di persone.

Dalit and tribal children from across Madhya Pradesh in central India face discrimination at the hands of fellow students and teachers. This was revealed at a public hearing organised by ActionAid partner in Dewas district that exposed major shortcomings in implementing government education policy in the state, and sought a way forward.

The Internet is set to play a critical role in poverty eradication efforts by providing unprecedented access to knowledge to the poor billions, according to experts gathered at a global knowledge conference. Hosted by the Global Knowledge Partnership, a multi-stakeholder platform by and for various sectors, the summit was a celebration of ten years of partnerships and the sharing of knowledge for the common goal of ICTs for development.

Sono diminuiti del 4,5% nel 2006, scendendo a 104,4 miliardi di dollari, i fondi allocati dai paesi Ocse per l’Aiuto allo sviluppo (Aps). Lo segnala il rapporto diffuso nei giorni scorsi dal Development Assistance Committee (Dac) dell’Ocse. L’Italia, al decimo posto per quote versate ma al terzultimo nel mondo in rapporto al Pil, riporta aiuti governativi (Aps) per 3.641 milioni di dollari, pari allo 0,20% del Pil, cioè il 30,6% in meno rispetto al 2005 in cui raggiunse una cifra "gonfiata" di Aps (0,29%) con la cancellazione del debito estero dell'Iraq e della Nigeria. "Siamo ancora lontani dagli impegni presi con gli elettori e in sede internazionale di raggiungere lo 0,7% Aps/Pil entro il 2015" - afferma ActionAid. "A pochi giorni dall'approvazione definitiva della Finanziaria torniamo a chiedere di aumentare le risorse almeno fino allo 0,33% com'era stato scritto nel Dpef lo scorso giugno e poi smentito nei fatti" - rimarca l'Associazione delle Ong italiane.

Indian government plans to bring e-Governance at the doorstep of every citizen in the country. Once implemented, it will be one of its kind with such a geographical spread. It is for the first time in the world that such a scheme is being implemented in a public private partnership framework.
