Sri Lanka: aumentano gli scontri tra l'esercito e le Tigri Tamil

24.01.2008 Nel nord dello Sri Lanka si registrano intensi combattimenti tra le forze armate governative e le Tigri Tamil e sarebbe di almeno 48 i morti. "Negli ultimi mesi si � verificato un aumento della violenza tra le due parti in conflitto: la situazione si � ulteriormente deteriorata il 2 gennaio, quando il governo ha annunciato ufficialmente il ritiro unilaterale dal cessate il fuoco firmato coi ribelli nel 2002" - riporta Medici Senza Fontiere (Msf), unica organizzazione non governativa internazionale presente nella zona del fronte. Nonostante gli appelli alla ripresa dei cessate il fuoco, il presidente Mahinda Rajapaksa, che � accusato di aver affossato il piano di pace avviato dal suo predecessore, ha assicurato che non semtter� di contrastare i guerriglieri "finch� continueranno a uccidere i civili". In 25 anni il conflitto, che ha vissuto momenti alterni di stasi e recrudescenza, ha provocato almeno 70mila morti.

10.01.2008 L'aumento del prezzo del greggio sta vanificando i benefici portati negli ultimi tre anni a molti paesi africani dagli aiuti internazionali e dalla cancellazione del debito tanto da far temere il ripetersi della crisi del debito degli anni Ottanta. Sono le conclusioni di una ricerca condotta dall'Agenzia internazionale per l'energia (IEA) e rilanciata da 'Il Sole 24 ore'. La ricerca svolta in 13 paesi africani privi di risorse petrolifere evidenzia come il rincaro del greggio acquistato da questi stati a partire dal 2004 sia stato equivalente a 3 punti percentuali del Pil: cifra superiore agli aiuti ricevuti nello stesso lasso di tempo dai paesi donatori e alla somma di debito cancellato. "Il vero rischio, di cui poco si parla, � che si va verso una nuova crisi del debito" - commenta a Unimondo, Antonio Tricarico della CRBM.
