Manifestazione di immigrati in Italia - da Meltingpot
31.10.2007 Quasi quattro milioni. Per la precisione sono 3.690.000 gli immigrati residenti in Italia. In un anno un aumento del 21,6% pari a 500 mila nel corso del 2006, con un aumento mai raggiunto neppure con le regolarizzazioni degli anni passati. Siamo al 6,2% della popolazione complessiva rispetto una media dei paesi dell’Unione Europea del 5,6%. Il nostro Paese ha superato l’Inghilterra e balzerebbe al terzo posto in Europa sia per tasso di crescita che per presenze in assoluto. Ci troviamo alle spalle di Germania e Spagna, che ospitano rispettivamente 7.287.900 e 4.002.500 immigrati. E in Europa? Raggiungiamo tutti assieme la cifra tonda di 50 milioni, un terzo di quelli presenti nel resto del mondo. In Italia parlano 150 lingue diverse, 1 su 2 sogna la cittadinanza italiana. "Senza gli immigrati il sistema Italia si bloccherebbe" - afferma il Presidente Napolitano in un messaggio inviato alla Caritas Migrantes che ha curato il rapporto. Sottoscriviamo. Purché si rivedano le politiche europee molto propense all’infrastruttura e meno a favorire un nuovo ed urgente dialogo tra popoli diversi. di Fabio Pipinato

31.10.2007 "Da un'Europa sconvolta dai recenti conflitti nei Balcani ad un Europa che, valorizzando etnie, lingue e religioni, sappia cogliere le tante opportunità anche attraverso l'allargamento dell'Unione". E' questo l'appello che è emerso dalle relatrici alla Conferenza internazionale promossa venerdì scorso a Bolzano dalla World Social Agenda nell'ambito della manifestazione "Libera Europa–Freies Europa". La conferenza ha concluso il ciclo di riflessione quadriennale sui continenti nei quali donne dell'Africa, America Latina, dell'Asia, dell’Europa dell’Est e dei Balcani hanno presentato le loro attività e la loro visione di un mondo "diverso, multiplo, mescolato". Dal prossimo anno, la World Social Agenda proporrà percorsi, dibattiti e eventi a Padova, Trento e Bolzano sugli "Obiettivi del Millennio" proposti dall'Onu.

26.10.2007 Sebagai mantan aktivis Lekra dan tahanan politik Orde Baru, Putu Oka Sukanta kini giat membantu Orang dengan HIV/AIDS (ODHA). "HIV/AIDS itu penyakit politis. Banyak orang menyingkirkan ODHA. Padahal, penyakit itu sulit menular," tegasnya.

The pilot project of Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust and National AIDS Control Organisation will track its use among women at risk in six states in India.

16.10.2007 Over 25,000 people are marching 350 kilometres from Gwalior to Delhi, the Indian capital, asking for equal rights to land, forest and water. The Janadesh 2007 campaign focuses on restoring people’s self-worth and dignity through issues about their livelihood resources. Jonathan Weedon, an Ekta Parishad volunteer from Scotland shares some of his experiences on the long march to liberty and equity.

These are a few of the women panchayat leaders from across India who gathered at New Delhi for the annual Sarojini Naidu Award, hosted by The Hunger Project. OWSA talks to some of them about their trials, tribulations and successes.
