The municipal council in the north Indian mountain state of Himachal Pradesh has made it mandatory for all buildings to provide for rainwater harvesting structures. The council also said that building plans without a rainwater harvesting system will not be accepted.

Wildlife authorities in the north Indian state of Kashmir will employ satellite-technology to protect the endangered red deer, also called hangul. Initially 10 animals will be fitted with the Global Positioning System (GPS) collars. This will enable authorities to track the deer whose regions are otherwise difficult to monitor.

Although the Orissa government claims it has succeeded in cutting the number of turtle deaths by pushing aggressively for the use of nets that allow trapped turtles to escape, and enforcing no-fishing regulations, illegal fishing by trawlers in protected areas of the sea continues unchecked.

Nearly thirty thousand Tibetans from India, Tibet and other parts of the world, who had gathered for the ‘spring teaching’ of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, attended an awareness stall at Mcleodganj held by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the Care for the Wild International (CWI).

Greenpeace has alleged that the Orissa government has been unable to save the Olive Ridley turtles on the beaches and mass deaths of the animals have taken place. The organisation has said that the government's inability to enforce a ban on trawlers near the shore has led to the mass deaths of the endangered species.
