28.11.2005 Conferenza stampa nazionale ed internazionale prevista per gioved� 1� dicembre, ore 12 - sala stampa della Camera dei deputati, via della Missione 4, Roma - la salvaguardia della laguna di Venezia con i suoi centri abitati e la lotta alle acque alte nel nuovo scenario prodotto dalla valutazione degli interventi alternativi alla chiusura mobile alle bocche di porto e dal loro confronto con il Mo.S.E. L'inizio del lavori, delle paratie mobili alle tre bocche di porto della laguna di Venezia, �, di fatto, l'inizio della realizzazione di un'opera epocale destinata a modificare radicalmente l'ecosistema antropico lagunare e con esso il futuro di Venezia e dei suoi centri abitati, per i prossimi 100-150 anni in un periodo di grande incertezza sull'entit� della variazione dei livelli marini per l'effetto serra. Le 11.500 firme, per la sospensione dei cantieri illegittimi, raccolte a Venezia in brevissimo tempo dalla Assemblea Permanente NOMOSE (pi� di un cittadino su sei), rappresentano l'enorme sensibilit� e coscienza sociale della citt�.

Endangered species list expanded

28.11.2005 Ninety-five countries meeting at an environmental conference in Kenya have agreed to expand the list of endangered species. New additions include a rare species of shark, a bird found in the marshes of southern Iraq, the so-called normal dolphin which is quickly losing its territory in the Mediterranean Sea and a type of elephant in western Africa.

Fisheries Commission accused of failing to act

India agrees to drilling near Olive Ridley turtle nesting sites

25.11.2005 The Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests has allowed two Indian oil companies to carry out offshore drilling on the country's east coast near the state of Orissa. The drilling will be carried out near a marine sanctary and a Ramsar site that harbour the endangered turtle as well as an endangered specie of dolphin.
