Lo scorso 16 ottobre è avvenuto il secondo suicidio in sole 48 ore nel Centro di Permanenza Temporanea di Modena, gestito dalla locale sezione delle Misericordie. Monam Ajouli aveva 23 anni ed era tunisino, Mohammed Turi aveva 25 anni ed era giunto nel Cpt solo una settimana prima. In un comunicato l’ARCI sottolinea come “nel rapporto della Commissione De Mistura, di cui l'Arci ha fatto parte, il Cpt di Modena è stato segnalato tra i peggiori, per le condizioni logistiche, la mancanza di relazioni umane, le condizioni alienanti a cui sono costretti i detenuti”. Una situazione disumana che “spiega i ripetuti tentativi di fuga, l'esasperazione che porta ad atti violenti contro altri e contro se stessi. Ci si ribella ad una ingiustificata condizione di costrizione, alla perdita di dignità, alla fine coatta di ogni speranza”. Anche l'ASGI, riprendendo le conclusioni della commissione De Mistura sui Cpt invita il governo a “ridurre drasticamente i casi di invio degli stranieri ai Cpt e dall'altro a strutturare i servizi di tutela legale e psicosociale nei centri in maniera completamente rinnovata nelle logiche e nelle forme”. di Alessio Di Florio

Following reports of tigers vanishing from the Sariska Tiger Reserve in the western state of Rajasthan, the state forest department and the Ministry of Environment and Forests have worked out voluntary relocation packages for families living in 11 villages in Sariska. The move will hopefully help bring India’s national animal back to the reserve.

October 10 marks one year since the Child Labour Act banned children from working as domestic servants. Yet millions of children continue to work in domestic and hazardous occupations and are vulnerable to abuse. Save The Children has called for concerted campaigns to save these lost childhoods.

A recent national meet on the educational needs of out-of-school children has called for a database on migrant children and to develop strategies to enfold them into the schooling system. The two-day meeting was organized by Rajasthan UNICEF in alliance with Rajasthan Council for Elementary Education.
